that’s right…feb 12th is national BLOG YOUR HEART OUT day! didn’t know? well that’s probably because it’s the very first one. this was just a little idea i thought up a few months ago – and now it’s actually a reality! here’s the story: i’ve always LOVED the go red for women movement because 1) it’s all about encouraging women to be healthier and 2) their betteru program is 12 weeks – just like the fitbook, and 2) i love red. it always felt like a natural fit for fitlosophy to support the cause so when i approached the american heart association with my idea to create awareness around heart disease using the power of social media – they loved it. (disclaimer: fitlosophy nor fitbook is endorsed by the american heart association – fitlosophy is just doing this because we really want to do a good thing!) so fast forward and we developed the concept and launched the campaign just last week which will follow our team of five bloggers as we follow the betteru program for the next 12 weeks (see my blog on week 1). click here to meet our bloggers! our goal in doing this is to create awareness around heart disease, educate our blog followers on being heart healthy through the betteru program, share our own stories, and inspire others to live life fit!
however, with february being national heart month we felt it necessary to take it one step further and not just have our five bloggers spreading the word – but to actually rally all bloggers around the world to SPEAK UP about heart disease and join forces TODAY as we declare february 12th BLOG YOUR HEART OUT day! using the viral power of the internet, our team has been on a mission to spread the word and get bloggers on board – twitter, facebook, email blasts, linked in…you name it – we’re doing it. what’s more: fitlosophy is asking all bloggers send us a link to their blog by sunday – and 3 bloggers will win a fitbook to give away on their blog to their readers! our hope is that bloggers will join the fitlosophy blogger team and blog their lil’ hearts out so their readers are aware of the risks of heart disease:
- heart disease is the #1 cause of death among women (and men) – it kills about 1 woman every minute, or approximately 450,000 women each year
- more women die of heart disease than the next 5 causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer
- 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease
scary huh? the good news is that 80% of cardiac events in women may be prevented by making the right choices involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking…which is where the betteru program comes in. betteru is a free online 12-week fitness & nutrition makeover from the american heart association – and THAT is why we’re bloggin’! we want women worldwide to join the movement – go red and get the following just for literally 30 seconds of your time:
- access to betteru - the same program our bloggers are following (perfect to use with your fitbook!)
- a little GO RED dress pin to show your involvement in the movement
- a free heart checkup – plus a community to share your story
not to mention the most important thing you get – your health. check out these stats (attn: to all those peeps that wanna shed those last few pounds) – even a few more reasons to go red:
- more than 1/3 of people participating in the betteru program have lost weight
- nearly 55% have increased their exercise and 60% have changed their diets
- more than 40% have checked their cholesterol levels

and if you’re human: go red!
i am so proud to be a part of this movement to create awareness around the #1 killer of women in america. with heart disease running in my family on both sides, i am very aware of the importance of living a healthy life. with nearly 90% of fitlosophy’s customers being women – we consider it our responsibility and a blessing that fitlosophy has the opportunity to raise awareness and hopefully save lives in a very tiny, but very real way. this truly is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart.
so don’t just sit there sippin’ your morning coffee – at the very least, for you or someone you LOVE, join the movement in 30 seconds or less and SPEAK UP.
with all my HEART,
